The Nike Mayfly, released in 2003, is a legendary running shoe with a unique concept—it was built to last only about 100 km, almost like it would “self-destruct.” Its name, Mayfly, symbolizes lightness and ephemerality. Designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, it was one of the lightest running shoes ever made. The sole gave a barefoot-like feel, while the ripstop nylon upper was both ultra-light and printable with bold patterns.
